Utilizing Islamic Philosophy Podcasts to Improve Generation Z’s Understanding of Muslim Ethics

Abstract

This study examines the background of declining ethical engagement among Generation Z Muslims and the increasing popularity of digital media as a learning space, which has prompted the exploration of podcasts as an accessible medium for values-based education. The aim of this study was to analyze how Islamic philosophy podcasts can enhance ethical understanding and reflective thinking skills in young Muslim listeners. To achieve this, a mixed methods approach was used, combining a survey with 120 Gen Z respondents and qualitative analysis through semi-structured interviews. This allowed researchers to measure changes in ethical understanding while gaining in-depth insights into participants' listening experiences. The findings indicate that consistent exposure to Islamic philosophy podcasts increased participants' awareness of moral reasoning, strengthened their ability to connect ethical principles to everyday dilemmas, and fostered positive attitudes toward self-reflection and responsible decision-making. Furthermore, respondents reported that the podcasts' relaxed and accessible conversational format facilitated the presentation of complex philosophical ideas, making them more easily internalized. Based on these findings, the study concludes that Islamic philosophy podcasts are an effective tool for strengthening ethical literacy among Gen Z Muslims, and have the potential to complement formal religious education and support digital-based moral development.
