Abstract

Increasingly complex environmental problems, including pollution, ecosystem degradation, natural resource exploitation, and climate change, highlight the urgent need to strengthen ecological awareness within society. These challenges require not only technical solutions and effective environmental policies but also a moral foundation capable of shaping how people perceive and interact with the natural environment. From an Islamic perspective, human beings are positioned as khalifah on Earth and entrusted with the responsibility to protect environmental balance and sustainability. Islamic values such as amanah, mizan, wasatiyyah, rahmah, and ta'awun provide an ethical foundation for responsible environmental stewardship while discouraging excessive consumption and destructive practices. This study aims to analyze how Islamic values contribute to the formation of ecological awareness and environmentally responsible behavior and how these values support the development of sustainable community life. This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review by analyzing and synthesizing scholarly literature on Islamic environmental ethics, ecological awareness, environmental behavior, and sustainable community development. The findings indicate that Islamic values can strengthen ecological awareness by fostering moral responsibility, environmental concern, respect for ecological balance, moderation in resource utilization, and environmentally responsible behavior. Such awareness can further encourage collective environmental action and contribute to the development of more sustainable patterns of community life. Therefore, integrating Islamic values with ecological awareness is not only relevant as an ethical approach to contemporary environmental challenges but can also serve as a moral and social foundation for building sustainable communities.
